Guide to Cyclones Winter Training 2021

Our training today is our official start to our 8 week training program.  This is a guide to our Winter Training, specifically getting started and Week 1 (Jan 2-8). Please ask any questions that you have so I can help you get started with all the answers you need.

Key Info:

  • Players track own points – Google sheet shared with individual families via email
  • Website link for all the ways to earn Cyclones Points
  • Get Champion’s Mind App (free version)
    • Players listen to Module 1, segments 1 & 2, and add post(s) to team thread shared via email. This link is not posted on the website to honor player privacy.
  • Players call 1 or 2 assigned teammates and discuss 5 prompts all found on a linked doc to our team email. This link is not posted on the website to honor player privacy.
  • If you want your player to have direct access from their own Google account, please share that account with Coach Scott so he can be added to our shared documents.

Our goal is for our players to improve their speed, power, mental game, and baseball skills this Winter.  To help track and celebrate player work, we will be using Cyclones Points.

Cyclones Points – players will earn individual Cyclones Points that will contribute to our total team points each week.  Our team will set weekly goals at our team training.  Individuals will track their own scores on a shared sheet with Coach Scott.  Players will only be able to see their own individual scores.  Weekly team scores will be reported.  How individuals help the team and team successes will be emphasized.  The top 1 or 2 individual scores for a week may be celebrated.  Here is a link to our website outlining how to earn Cyclones Points.  Families received an individual email with a player scorecard for players and/or families.  Players must track their points on these scorecards each week.

Points will be earned by attending our team training (2 pts), completing additional weekly baseball training at home (2 pts), doing individual training (1 pt/time) or in season sports training (1 pt/time), participating in a team thread emailed to families after downloading the free version and listening to this linked Champion’s Mind app (1 pt/1 post, 2 pts/3+ posts), and by working with on the teammate activity emailed to families.

Team and individual training: If we are able to secure gym time with enough space to keep players distanced and players continue to comply with masking and all safety expectations, we will have 1 team training a week.  If 10 or less players are available, we will have a 90 minute training, or if we have 11 or more available we will do two split squad 60 minutes trainings.  If we have to pay for gyms, we will charge a Winter training fee to cover the costs. We expect players to complete 1 additional 30+ minute weekly training at home in a safe space, and to work that week’s hitting, throwing, and conditioning skills.  Players can earn additional points and improve their game by training more, with more baseball training, fitness work, or in season sports training.

The mental game is an important aspect of the game that players can learn to better control.  This helps players as athletes and in life.  Players will earn 1-2 points by adding to our Google discussion thread.

Forming bonds, working together, and listening are all important to building team and also for our young men growing up.  Our weekly teammate discussions will help our players get to know one another better and become better at supporting each other.  Players will earn 1 point for this.

Let’s set our goals and work to achieve them.

Go Cyclones!
