West Madison Little League 2021

With WMLL sign up underway and with the uncertainty of Covid’s impact on baseball, we’ve fielded questions about our current plans for the Cyclones and for WMLL. As often happens, in our discussion Kevin brought clarity to our planning.

Kevin simplified planning by using 3 different potential scenarios. Here is a quick summary of potential scenarios followed by our thoughts and plans.

Scenario 1: If it is a relatively normal WMLL season, our plan is to coach and have our sons play WMLL, which in a typical year plays about 16 games, plus postseason WMLL playoffs, plus WMLL tournament team play. We will coach the Cyclones who will practice and play in 4-5 tournaments, hopefully around 20 games. We could potentially replace a tournament and schedule a double-header or two vs. area tourney teams on a weekend, if this seems a better option.

Scenario 2: If it becomes clear WMLL will do limited baseball or scrimmages like last year, that our team community feels it is safe to play tournaments, and there are more available baseball tournaments to be played, we’d pay the $10 opt out fee to WMLL and sign up for more tournaments and/or more games vs. area teams.

Scenario 3: If there is more restrictive baseball regulations for WMLL and around the state, we will do our best and make the most of it.

Kevin and I will plan for Scenario 1, sign up our sons for WMLL and coach a team together. If WMLL definitively says this year will be like Scenario 2, we will pay the $10 opt out fee, check with team families and work to increase Cyclones action.

At WMLL, the players get to be around their friends and a great community, and they create lots of great Summer memories.  We expect all of the work our players put into Fall and Winter training will show in Spring and Summer. For the 10 Cyclones who are considered 12 year olds at WMLL, it’s the last year on the small field and a special year. We don’t want our boys to miss these experiences to remember.
