On occasion, posts will be added to highlight some of those individual and collaborative great works that contribute to our collective good. These posts will be called The Gathering Storm. Our second feature in The Gathering Storm is called “Vision and Art” Coach Dan and Team Artist Matt.
Along with being an outstanding coach for our players and team, Dan has welcomed Matt, his very talented brother-in-law to create our team graphic design and the two of them have led the way in some fantastic designs for our team gear.
Matt has designed graphics and jerseys for his ultimate frisbee team, Boston Ironside, which is why some of these designs have a pirate or naval theme. He’s also designed t-shirts and other ultimate frisbee or disc golf related gear, including UW-Madison’s ultimate club, the Hodags. Here are some samples of his amazing past work.
Together, Dan and Matt have put together the core ideas, graphics and art for our team combining Cyclones, Madison, and baseball into each design. They’ve listened to our players and coaches and custom made our designs. We now have fantastic hats, training shirts, hoodies, beanies, and soon game jerseys. Here are some of our designs:

The Cyclones training shirt, which served as our 2020 Fall tourney jersey has the classic Cyclones logos.
Our team hat with our navy blue to match our jersey, the grey front to match our pants, and the Green Cyclones “C” with the capitol silhouette.
This design includes core concepts created from the start, and adds the larger Cyclone on the back with the star pattern. This was our players top choice for our Cyclones game jersey
It’s been pretty awesome to see this process from start. Dan and Matt started us off with great suggestions and art samples. Our players and coaches chose their favorite designs. Matt revised and revised until it was just right. Behind the scenes Matt helped guide Badger Sporting Goods and R2G in color and design tweaks to best match his mock up. Can’t wait to see our players in these jerseys in April! Thanks Dan and Matt for sharing your talents and vision and for such a player and team centered process.
